Degree Requirements
- For complete degree requirements, please see the
pertinent entry in the UO Catalog.
- For the 2002/03 Catalog, the requirements will change substantially.
Highlights are:
- A minimum of 24 graded credits at the 500 or 600 level, a minimum of
10 credits in an industrial internship position, and a total number
of between 45 and 53 credits, depending on the options selected. A
grade of B- or better must be achieved in each graded course that
counts towards the total graded course credit hours. Overall GPA in
Physics must be 3.00.
- All graduate school requirements must be fulfilled.
- The total number of credits required depends on the number of
graded credits and internship the student earns. The minimum of
45 credits applies if the students earns at least 32 graded credits.
At least 53 total credits must be earned if the student has only the
minimum of 24 graded credits. In general, a requirement of 1
additional credit will be added to the 45 total credit minimum for
each credit deficit below the 32 graded credit level.
- The internship credit requirement must be fulfilled by participation
in the
Industrial Internship Program administered by the Materials
Science Institute. Students must apply to the Institute for this
program, and will generally earn 10 ungraded credits for every
3-month period of full-time internship experience.
- The graded credits must include 12 credits from the core sequence
in Semiconductor Device Physics (PHYS 577,578,579). The remaining
credits are to be selected from an approved departmental list.
Examples of courses included on this list will be given in the
2002/03 UO Catalog.
